Plastic Fantastic Hyde Review - Total Rip Off - Your not kidding!

Plastic Fantastic Hyde Review - Total Rip Off - Your not kidding!
(Hyde)
This is one of their websites - http://www.plasticfantastic.uk.com/

We recently had fascias, gutters and soffits fitted by this bunch of cowboys! Never again!!

Where do i start?

Well the cost for one thing.
I am a great believer in the adage you get what you pay for. Alas in this case it would seem i got a shoddy company with shoddy workmanship and appalling customer service.
Funny cos i do not remember asking for any of that or in fact being promised it either.

So here is an email i sent to the owner/boss:-

The gutter at the front is still dripping.

In addition to this we have now had a chance to step back and look at it properly. The gutter goes up at either end where it adjoins to the neighbours. This in effect will mean that any water will not drain away but collect in the middle of ours.

The gutter itself is wonky and is not straight along its length.

I never made mention of a number of other points before as I just wanted to get the job sorted but as I am now at my whit’s end  both with your company and the fitters I feel I should share some of my issues.

We paid a lot of money for a job that we could have easily got done much cheaper and to no worse standard than your company has provided.

We were told that the area would be cleaned up and all rubbish removed – it was, and still is, a poor clean up, as there is a mess all over the back and front of the garden. The rubbish was not removed in its entirety as it was put in our bin. Which has since been empted.

We have had issues from day one with the fitters not turning up when they were supposed to. Not doing what they were asked to and making it up as they went along. We have had issues with neighbours as a result of their intervention between them.

The leaks remain.
The gutter is not straight.

Yesterday I found a piece of roof tile on the upstairs window sill. This gives me great reason for further concern.

Furthermore, when Steve came round he stated that “you do not use sub-contractors” and that the fitters use “scaffolding” so as to work at waist level. Neither of which is true. This is also stated on your literature.

At no point have we had you or anyone else for that matter offer any apology for issues raised nor has anyone even asked if everything was okay.

I want this resolved as a matter of priority but what I do not want is the same fitters.

I shall leave this with you.

So that email was read and no action taken.
I emailed a week later with reference to the previous mail and stating how appalled i was with the customer service.
That mail was also read and still no action taken.

Furthermore i am still waiting for a receipt for payment and the so called welcome pack from this "rip off" company.

What i did not put in the letter above (because they already new about it) was the part where they put the gutter, fascias and soffits in the wrong place!! Yes they put them part way across the neighbors and were short on our side.

When we called the company at no point were we asked if everything was okay. At no point has anyone offered so much as an apology.

I have now emailed trading standards.

You have been warned!!

Clean as a whistle...or in this case glass

My mum recently gave us a pack of these ecloths.

I have to say i was a little skeptical as all it consisted of was 2 cloths. All you do is wet one, clean glass then use the other to dry/polish.

WOW! So little effort and no chemicals whatsoever!
The glass comes up a treat.

You just have to try these folks.

THANKS MUM!

Ashley Guest House York - Review

Back to the future....and back again to work.
Just returned from a great weekend away in York.

We stayed at a wonderful B&B just outside the center.

It is called Ashley Guest House and details can be found here - http://www.ashleyguesthouse.co.uk/

Its owned/run by Phil & Emma.

We were made to feel very welcome upon our arrival and throughout our stay by both Phil and the one member of staff that served us during breakfast.
She was efficient and very polite.

We have stayed in a lot of places, both in this country and abroad and it would not be an exaggeration to say that Phil cooked the best breakfast i have personally ever had.
Oh and anyone who happens to stay here should also try the breakfast bars - They are lovely! - Home made from a Nigella Lawson recipe.

The rooms were very clean and had everything in you could need from a B&B.
We stayed in room 4 - Now we knew what we were getting but i would not stay in that room again for one reason. It doesn't have an on-suite. The toilet is located just outside in separate room. It is for the sole use of that bedroom but it makes it awkward.
Also there is a very nice large roll topped bath in the bedroom but sadly no shower.

But as i say we knew this before we went and the room was great.

On our way home we decided to go to a fab little place called The Farmers Cart about 8 miles down the road.
I shall be doing another post on this for those of you interested. Well worth a visit!

Smaragdi apartments in Lambi, Kos - Review

Ok so where do we start?

We stayed at the Smaragdi apartments in Lambi just outside of Kos centre.
We could walk in to town in about 15 to 20 mins depending on the heat.

First impression – the outside looked nice and clean.
The reception area was quite large by Greek standards and plenty of seating.
The greeting we received from the lady on reception desk was warm and welcoming.
Not that it is particularly relevant but she was Australian/Greek and spoke very good English.

Now we can only comment specifically on our room which was number 6.
Again, first impressions was that it was clean and tidy with plenty of room.
You walked into the small but well equipped kitchen area and immediately to the right was the first bedroom/seating area.

Next room along to the right was the main bedroom with 2 single beds.
Straight ahead was the bathroom/toilet.

Okay now the nitty gritty.
Good points – clean, plenty of space, very well equipped kitchen area.

The staff were friendly and welcoming.
The main person, the one who was there most of the time and does the cooking and drink service and the one who, in our opinion is the face of the Smaragdi was Maria.
She worked really hard and a lot of hours (From 9am-5pm then from 8pm to whenever).
She always had a smile on her face and makes some rather nice cakes (ask to try some)

In the 2 weeks we were there we had no problem getting a sun bed.

Bad points –
Serious lack of power points/sockets – the kitchen area was well equipped, as mentioned, with toaster, kettle, mini oven, coffee maker BUT only ONE power point!
Main bedroom had ONE power point which we found we had to keep switching electrical items between kettle (which we had to boil in there whilst making breakfast in the kitchen), electric razor, camera charger, hair dryer, toothbrush, mobile phones.
The other room also only had ONE power point and that was in a daft place just underneath the light switch.

As is the case in many apartments and hotels you are supplied a key with a key fob and the fob has to go into a slot to switch on the power for the apartment. No problem  except when you come in at night… when you step in, turn to close the door it becomes very dark indeed. You then have to try and find the key hole to lock the door and then try and find the slot to put the fob in the slot which is in the first room round the corner. And no it wasn’t possible to separate the two.
I fortunately brought a small torch just in case of a power cut. Came in really handy for locking door at night.

Storage/closet space was ridiculously limited. We had a half length built in cupboard/hanging space which was in the kitchen area.
NO hanging space/area in either of the bedrooms. So all three of us had to make do with this very small area to put 2 weeks worth of clothes.
The daft thing is there is plenty of room to put a full size double wardrobe in the main bedroom.

It’s a self catering apartment however there is no eating area or more specifically no table to eat anything on. There was a small very wobbly plastic table on the balcony. Barely big enough for 2 to eat at but the way it wobbled meant that wasn’t really possible anyway.

The walls are thin. Fortunately it was a relatively quite intake of holiday makers. That said, everytime someone flushed the toilet it sounded like it was in your own room.

Outside:- The area around the pool was a little tired and needed some TLC.
A few broken tiles close to the edge of the pool were in need of replacement as they were sharp and dangerous. The ladder which allowed entry and exit to/from pool was loose – very loose!

Last but by no means least – BEDS!
Horrendous!  The worst mattresses we have ever slept, sorry attempted to sleep, on.
Just to give us a fighting chance of any sleep we had to use the thicker bed cover and put that on first then the sheet. It made little difference. One of the mattresses actually made so much spring noise when moving that alone would have been enough to wake the dead.

Just for reference:- We personally found a few really nice places to eat. Three of our favourite…
Turn left on to the road when leaving the hotel and walk up the road about 5-7mins and the very first taverna is on the left opposite the fire station. This is a place we ate at several times and found the food and service excellent.

Continue down the road to the supermarket and turn right. Continue down this road for about 15-17mins and you will be just outside of Kos town centre.  Just before you get that far look down the side roads for a place called Boomerang. A fantastic place to eat!

Finally…get to the square in Kos town and look out for Jumbo Style.
REALLY BIG PORTIONS! Great guy/owner – Australian/Greek.

Check out my blog for some pictures.

Home Sweet Home....Nice bed

Well we got home yesterday and boy were we happy to get in a comfy bed!

I shall be doing a full review of the apartments we stayed in, both here and on Trip Adviser, in the near future. Suffice to say the beds were horrendous.

Going to miss this place...especially Jimmy

We had to go into Kos town this morning to pick up some antibiotics.
Our fantastic host, Jimmy, owner of the Jumbo Style restaurant managed to get them for us.
I can't go into detail but he and his family have been amazing.

We had a fish platter for two last night and it was huge but went down a treat.
Food is great the hosts are outstanding.

Look out for Jimmy in his distinctive orange top and goaty beard.

Hi Ho hi Ho...its off to Kos we go

Left it late for tea tonight simply because we are walking into Kos town for food and the temp is still 30 degrees at 8.30.

We know where we are eating.
It's called jumbo size I think.
We got a free drink from the Australian owner last night. We just said we were looking and got whatever we wanted on the house.
What are the chances of that in the UK...yeah exactly!

It's called jumbo by the way because of the portion size.

Safe as houses...not quite

Well that was close...lost, or should I say could not find, our safe key.

Safe is in open view in reception so somewhat panicked.

Went to reception only to find it had been handed in.
Thanked her then promptly throttled her for not bringing it to us.
She said she couldn't leave desk.
Fair enough I said but what about the phone sat in front of you?

Mmm a muted response.

Now have to track down the kind honest people who handed it in and buy them a drink.

Many irons in many fires....things could get hot...or could i get burnt!?

Okay so i said way back when that i intended to start my own business again.
Well i have a few things on the go at the moment and hopefully might even make some money....eventually :-)

Further to this i am off out today to meet up with a colleague / friend who would also like to...shall we say... improve his work life balance.

We are going to do some brain storming and see what sticks.

Would love to hear from anyone who has any ideas i could take to the table. Doesn't have to be for today as this will be a longer process than a lunch meeting.

So anyone with any ideas for a new business idea they would like to see us give a go too or perhaps someone or something that already exists but you just can't seem to find readily or locally.

All sensible comments welcome!

Thomson SKY+ HD Box swap....it could be you!

Okay some of you may be aware that SKY as a company have been contacting customers who have a THOMSON SKY+ HD box.

You could, if you felt that way inclined, contact them and tell them you have such a box.

By the end of the conversation you will no doubt have an install booked in for a "swap out".

This means you will get FOC (Free of charge) a brand new HD box.

So why not check to see what make of box you have now!

Oh and by the way, don't try telling them you have a Thomson when you do not! They do actually know what you have :-)

SKY Multi-room telephone point issues...

As a SKY engineer i often put in multi-room and along with the cables from the dish i have to connect the box to a telephone point.
Now to do this we run a telephone wire from the closest socket to the boxes.

The vast majority of homes only have one socket in the house and if we are lucky they are in the same room as one of the boxes.

The second box still needs connecting and alas this usually means running a telephone wire half way round the house up stairs and round door frames.

Not what the customer or admittedly what we want.

Now there is an alternative but SKY do not endorse these.
A Wireless Phone Jack.

I have used them and so have other engineers, as have many customers.

So if you are in this position take a look in more detail what i am talking about...

Vodafone MMS...not working

Well i am having as much fun with yet another mobile communications provider as i have come to expect!

I have had my phone for 6 months or more. Don't get me started on the issues i have had with HTC. Suffice to say i will not be buying another HTC again!

That aside the issue i am currently having is with Vodafone. At least i think it is.
I am unable to send or receive MMS messages.
For those of you that don't know that's just multimedia messaging i.e. pictures.

All me settings on the phone are correct so i have a feeling that vodafone do not have it active on my account.

Just waiting to hear back from them.

I am happy to hear from anyone with the same problem or better still a resolution to it.

Domain buying scam

Ok so it hasn't taken long for me to make my second post but i thought this was important, at least to those of you who know what i am talking about :-)

There is a scam going around offering to buy domain names that have been put up for sale on sites such as Sedo.com

I, along with others have received an email offering to buy a domain - In short its a scam, stay clear!! You have been warned.

The following is the email you get -

Hello,

We are interested in your domain name for sale.

Please email us your desired price in USD or euros for the domain name in the subject line.

If you have other names for sale please email us yiur full list with prices for consideration.

Looking forward to doing business with you.

Day One....sounds like big brother or what!?

Okay so this is my first foray into the world of BLOGs.
Funny really because i have been into IT, gadgets and the Internet for as many years as i can remember.
I guess its just that i couldn't be bothered typing all this in and indeed had no reason to.

Who knows, maybe this will be my one and only post. :-)

I suppose one of the things that has prompted me to do this is the fact that i am trying to start up an online business.

I have worked in IT for many years but that was many years ago.
I use to co-run a company called Technical Assist Ltd.

I now work as a SKY Engineer for well yes - SKY.

I am still getting to grips with all this so bear with my mistakes - as i am sure there will be many.

As i say, it is my intention to start working for myself once again and to that end i have started with one or two things.
One of which is the purchase of certain domain names.
Some i will sell, hopefully for a profit, and some i will keep and build upon them by way of web sites that i am having commissioned.

One such early stage build is www.pcactiongame.com

Anyway, can't stay here all day i have to look for other money making ideas :-)
